Celebrating Women in Business: How a Strong Online Presence Empowers Female Entrepreneurs

women entrepreneurs creating websites together

International Women’s Day rolls around every March, and honestly, it’s one of our favorite moments to step back and appreciate the women who are out there building something from the ground up. This year’s theme is Give to Gain—the idea that when we show up for each other, share what we know, and lend a hand, everybody wins. We couldn’t agree more.

Here at YellowWebMonkey, we’ve spent over 15 years helping business owners get their digital footing. Our team is led by veterans, so we know a thing or two about showing up and doing the work. And over those years, we’ve watched more and more women step into entrepreneurship and absolutely crush it. We want to talk about that—and about how having a solid online presence can make a real difference when you’re building a business.

Women Are Starting Businesses Like Never Before

Let’s just put the numbers out there, because they’re pretty incredible. Women now start nearly half of all new businesses in the U.S.—that’s a 69% jump from where things were in 2019. There are over 14 million women-owned businesses in this country, bringing in around $2.1 trillion in revenue and employing more than 11 million people. That’s not a trend. That’s a movement.

And here’s what’s really cool: women-owned businesses have been growing 44% faster over the past five years. Women founders tend to be scrappy and adaptable too—research shows they’re more likely to pivot their business model when things get tough, rather than doubling down on something that isn’t working.

That said, it’s not all smooth sailing. Women-led startups still only receive about 2–3% of venture capital funding. Many women entrepreneurs are funding their businesses through personal savings and help from family and friends. That takes guts, and it makes the Give to Gain mindset even more important. When women support each other—whether that’s through mentorship, referrals, or just honest advice over coffee—it fills gaps that the traditional funding world hasn’t caught up to yet.

Your Website Is Working for You (Or It Should Be)

If you’re a woman running a business—maybe bootstrapping it, maybe juggling it alongside a million other things—your website is one of the hardest-working tools you’ve got. Think of it as your storefront, your business card, and your best salesperson all rolled into one. And it never takes a day off.

People Google You Before They Call You

This one’s just reality. Most people are going to check out your website before they ever pick up the phone or walk through your door. If your site looks like it was built in 2012, loads at a snail’s pace, or doesn’t clearly explain what you do—you’re losing people before you even get a shot. A clean, professional website tells people you mean business. It builds trust before you’ve said a word.

Showing Up on Google Changes Everything

Here’s the beautiful thing about search: it doesn’t care how big your company is. A one-woman operation with a well-built website can show up right alongside—or ahead of—a much bigger competitor. When someone searches for exactly what you offer and finds you on page one, that’s not luck. That’s the result of having a site that’s set up the right way, with content that actually helps people. And you don’t need a massive budget to make it happen.

Selling Online Opens Up a Whole New World

If you sell products, an online store removes so many barriers. No lease to sign, no foot traffic to depend on. Platforms like Shopify let you reach customers anywhere, handle orders while you sleep, and scale at your own pace. Women entrepreneurs have been all over e-commerce, and for good reason—it’s flexible, it’s powerful, and when it’s set up right, it just works.

What Give to Gain Looks Like in the Digital World

The whole point of Give to Gain is that generosity isn’t just nice—it’s smart. And in the online space, this plays out in some really practical ways:

  • Share what you know. Write blog posts, create how-to guides, or just answer the questions your customers keep asking. When you put helpful content out there, people notice—and so do search engines. You’re giving value and building your reputation at the same time.
  • Shout out other women-owned businesses. Partner on content, recommend each other, link to each other’s sites. It’s good for your community, and it’s good for your online visibility. Everybody gets a boost.
  • Find your people. Programs like CHASM and the Tory Burch Foundation are creating real pathways for women founders to get access to resources, mentorship, and funding. If you’ve got experience, share it. If you’re just starting out, don’t be afraid to ask for help. That’s what this is all about.
  • Leave reviews. Ask for reviews. When you take two minutes to write a review for a business you love, you’re helping them get found. And when you ask your happy customers to do the same for you, it creates a cycle of trust and visibility that benefits everyone.

When women entrepreneurs have each other’s backs online, it adds up fast. Every recommendation, every collaboration, every shared resource makes the whole network stronger.

Why We Care So Much About This

At YellowWebMonkey, we’ve built our business on the same values that Give to Gain is all about: service, partnership, and genuinely wanting to see people succeed. We’re a veteran-owned team and that mission-first mentality is baked into how we work.

We don’t build a website and disappear. Our average client relationship is over seven years, and that’s because we actually care about results. We’re in it for the long haul. Whether you need a Shopify store that converts, a WordPress site that ranks, or someone to handle your SEO and content so you can focus on running your business—we’re your team, not just another agency.

We love helping women entrepreneurs who are putting it all on the line to build something that matters. We get the unique challenges, and we know that the right digital foundation can be the thing that takes a business from getting by to taking off.

Let’s Build Something Together

This International Women’s Day, do something for your business. Whether you’re starting fresh or ready to level up what you’ve already got, your online presence is worth the investment.

Give to Gain starts with one step. We’d love to help you take it.
