The Results First (Because the Numbers Do the Talking)
Thirty days after launching a full Shopify remodel for Guardair Corporation, a leading manufacturer of industrial air-powered cleaning and safety solutions, the data told a clear story:
- +33% gross sales growth vs. the prior 30-day period
- +100% organic search sessions
- Significant increase in average order value
- +6.2 percentage points in returning customer rate
- +14% gross revenue year-over-year, with +40% more orders
These aren’t projections. They are verified analytics from Shopify, Google Analytics 4, and Google Search Console, pulled 30 days post-launch.
Here’s how it happened.
The Client: Guardair Corporation
Guardair Corporation has been engineering air-powered tools for industrial safety and cleaning applications for decades. Their product catalog spans safety air guns, pneumatic vacuums, air hose connectors, and specialized industrial cleaning systems. These are products trusted by facilities teams, manufacturing operations, and safety professionals across North America and beyond.
This is not a B2C brand selling a familiar product to a general consumer audience. Guardair operates in a specialized B2B space where the buyer isn’t browsing for something they already want. They arrive with a problem. A facility has a compliance requirement. A production line needs a safer air gun. A maintenance team is dealing with debris that a standard vacuum can’t handle. The buyer’s job is to find the right piece of equipment that solves that specific problem, justify the purchase to a procurement department, and get it right the first time.
That context changes everything about how an ecommerce experience should be designed. The customer journey cannot work the same way it does for a consumer brand selling a product with broad appeal and low friction. Every step from landing on the site to completing a purchase needs to help a technically minded buyer quickly understand whether a product solves their problem, compare the right options, and feel confident enough to act. Simplifying and clarifying that journey was not a design preference on this project. It was the central business requirement.
Before the remodel, Guardair’s Shopify store was functional but underperforming relative to its catalog depth and brand reputation. Traffic was there, but the site wasn’t converting it into the revenue the business deserved.
The Challenge
Our pre-launch audit revealed several compounding issues holding the site back:
Organic traffic was declining. SEMrush domain analytics showed organic traffic had dropped 48% in the period leading up to the remodel. The site was ranking for over 3,000 keywords, but slipping positions were translating into fewer clicks.
The site health score was 85%, functional but carrying 147 crawl errors and 82 product images missing alt text. Top-10% websites score 92%. There was room to close that gap.
Product discovery was fragmented. With a catalog as deep as Guardair’s, users needed clear pathways to find the right product for their application. The existing navigation and collection structure made that harder than it needed to be.
The purchase funnel had a significant drop-off. Pre-launch data showed strong product page traffic but high abandonment before checkout completion. For a B2B audience that often requires procurement approval, the site wasn’t offering the right conversion paths for every type of buyer.
Average order value was being left on the table. With an industrial catalog that includes high-value vacuum systems and specialized safety equipment, the old site wasn’t surfacing those products effectively enough to drive the AOV the catalog supported.
The Approach
YellowWebMonkey approached the Guardair remodel as a revenue problem first and a design problem second. Every decision, from navigation architecture to content strategy to product page structure, was evaluated against one question: does this help the right buyer find the right product and take action?
Site Architecture & Navigation: Rethinking the Customer Journey
One of the most impactful strategic decisions of the remodel came from an observation in the pre-launch data: Guardair’s collection pages were generating significant organic impressions despite not being linked anywhere in the site’s main navigation. Pages like /collections/safety-air-guns, /collections/pneumatic-vacuums, and /collections/air-hose-connectors were appearing in thousands of searches, but buyers had no clear path to reach them through the site itself.
The old customer journey looked like this:
Landing Page → Product Page → Checkout
Buyers arriving from search or paid campaigns were being dropped directly onto individual product pages, bypassing the broader context of Guardair’s catalog. For a brand with deep product lines where buyers often need to compare specifications across multiple SKUs, or discover that a related product better fits their application, this was a conversion bottleneck hiding in plain sight.
We restructured the journey to put collection pages at the center:
Landing Page → Collection Page → Product Page → Checkout
Collection pages were built out with stronger content, clearer filtering, and contextual product groupings that help buyers self-qualify before committing to a specific SKU. Navigation was redesigned to make these collection pages primary destinations, not just pages that happened to rank. Internal linking was updated throughout the site to direct traffic through collection pages rather than past them.
The result was twofold: buyers got a better path to purchase, and Google got stronger signals that these collection pages were authoritative, well-linked hubs for their respective product categories, reinforcing rankings that were already there but had been underutilized.
Custom Liquid sections were developed under our ywm-* naming convention for reusability and maintainability, including feature statistics blocks, multicolumn layouts with tag filtering, and breadcrumb navigation, all designed to support product discovery at collection depth and scale.
Content & SEO Foundation
Each collection page was reviewed for keyword alignment, content depth, and metadata quality. Pages targeting high-impression queries, including safety air guns, pneumatic vacuums, air hose connectors, and nozzle collections, were structured to satisfy both search intent and the informational needs of a B2B buyer doing pre-purchase research.
Schema markup was implemented across product and collection pages to improve eligibility for rich results. Canonical URLs and sitemap structure were verified to ensure clean indexation of the full catalog.
Performance & Accessibility
The remodel was built to meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, which is the right approach for both users and search rankings. Core Web Vitals were prioritized from the build phase, targeting passing scores on both mobile and desktop before launch.
The Google & YouTube app integration was verified and properly configured to ensure GA4 event tracking, Google Ads conversion measurement, and Google Merchant Center product sync were all firing correctly through Shopify’s native Web Pixel framework, replacing a legacy GTM/third-party pixel setup with a cleaner, more accurate tracking stack.
Product Merchandising
The homepage and collection pages were rebuilt to spotlight Guardair’s higher-value product lines, particularly the PowerQUAD vacuum systems, personnel cleaning stations, and the Air & Syphon Gun line, in a way that matched buyer intent with the right product tier.
The Results, In Detail
Revenue
Metric | Change |
|---|---|
Gross Sales | +33% |
Net Sales | +36% |
Orders | +11% |
Average Order Value | +19% |
Net sales grew 36%, and this wasn’t driven by discounting. The increase in average order value indicates buyers are adding more valuable products to their orders, which is a direct reflection of improved product discovery and merchandising.
Traffic & Organic Search
Metric | Change |
|---|---|
Shopify Sessions | +19% |
Organic Sessions (GA4) | +100% |
GSC Impressions | +18.7% |
GSC Clicks | +6.5% |
Organic sessions doubling in 30 days is the headline SEO result. The new site architecture and content structure gave Google cleaner signals about what each page is about and who it’s for. A significant contributor was the deliberate decision to route traffic through collection pages, which were already ranking well organically but had been invisible in the site’s navigation. By making them primary destinations and building internal linking structure around them, we amplified rankings that already existed rather than starting from scratch. More impressions, more clicks, more organic revenue, all moving in the right direction within the first month.
Customer Loyalty
Returning customer rate climbed from 28.05% to 34.24%, a 6.2 percentage point increase. Existing customers came back to the new site and engaged more. That’s a signal that the UX improvement isn’t just attracting new visitors; it’s strengthening relationships with buyers who already know and trust the brand.
Year-Over-Year Context
Comparing April–May 2026 against April–May 2025 puts the full scale of the transformation in perspective:
Metric | Change |
|---|---|
Gross Sales | +14% |
Orders | +40% |
Returning Customers | +5.8pts |
Note: Session data from the 2025 comparison period is excluded due to a known analytics tracking gap in the prior configuration.
Compared to the same period in 2025, the store generated 14% more gross revenue and 40% more orders, with returning customer rate climbing 5.8 percentage points year-over-year.
What the Data Tells Us About B2B Ecommerce
The Guardair results reinforce several principles we apply across every B2B Shopify project:
Conversion rate isn’t the only metric that matters. Guardair’s conversion rate sits at 0.37%, which is lower than a typical B2C store, and slightly lower than the pre-launch rate. But gross sales are up 33%. When average order value increases alongside session volume, overall revenue can outperform even as conversion rate stays modest. For procurement-driven buyers who research heavily before purchasing, the focus should be on removing friction at every stage of the journey, not chasing a B2C conversion benchmark.
Don’t Ignore What’s Already Working. Amplify It. The 100% increase in organic sessions didn’t come from building new backlinks or running a content campaign. It came from identifying that Guardair’s collection pages were already ranking well organically despite being completely absent from the site navigation, and then restructuring the customer journey to actually use them. When the data shows a page performing well without any intentional support, the right move is to get behind it, not ignore it. Fixing the navigation and internal linking to surface those collection pages turned latent organic potential into measurable traffic growth.
Returning customer rate is a UX report card. A remodel that alienates existing customers is a failed remodel, regardless of what it does for new traffic. The 34.24% returning customer rate, up from 28%, tells us Guardair’s existing buyers found the new experience better than what they had before. That matters.
Tracking infrastructure is not optional. Part of the remodel included verifying and migrating Guardair’s entire tracking stack from a legacy GTM/third-party pixel setup to Shopify’s native Web Pixel framework connected through the Google & YouTube app. Clean data is the foundation of every optimization decision that follows a launch. Without it, you’re flying blind on ad spend, conversion optimization, and merchandising decisions.
30 Days In: What Comes Next
The 30-day mark is a checkpoint, not a finish line. With the site health score at 86% (up from 85%), crawlability at 91%, and some internal linking gaps identified, there are clear technical SEO improvements available. Average position in Google Search Console sits at 10.0, within the normal post-remodel settling range, and is expected to recover and improve as Google fully indexes the new site structure.
The conversion funnel remains the primary optimization focus. With a growing session base and a 0.37% conversion rate, every incremental improvement in checkout completion translates directly to revenue. The foundation is strong. The upside is real.
Is Your Shopify Store Leaving Revenue on the Table?
If your store is driving traffic but not converting it, or if your catalog depth isn’t reflected in your average order value, the Guardair story might sound familiar.
