About the Client
Our client is an established e-commerce retailer specializing in concealed carry holsters for firearms. Known for their innovative designs and commitment to quality, they serve a nationwide customer base of gun owners who prioritize comfort, concealment, and quick access. With a product catalog spanning multiple holster styles for hundreds of firearm models, helping customers find the right holster for their specific weapon is central to their business.
The Challenge
The client was running on Magento, and while the platform had served them for years, it had become a bottleneck. Every change to the website—no matter how small—required their developer to hard-code it manually. Want to update a banner? Submit a request. Need to add a new product? Submit a request. Change a price or promotion? Submit a request.
The result was a frustrating cycle of delays. Simple updates that should take minutes could take weeks to go live, depending on the developer’s availability. Their team had no ability to manage their own website, leaving them unable to respond quickly to market conditions, seasonal promotions, or customer needs.
They needed a platform that would put control back in their hands—without sacrificing the functionality their business required.
Our Approach
YellowWebMonkey migrated the client from Magento to Shopify, focusing not just on moving the site, but on building a platform the team could actually manage themselves. The project spanned five months from kickoff to launch.
Services Provided
- Full platform migration from Magento to Shopify

The Holster Finder
One of the biggest UX challenges for the client was helping customers find the right holster for their specific firearm. With thousands of weapon models and multiple holster styles, the old site made this harder than it needed to be.
We built a custom holster finder tool that lets customers simply select their weapon, and the tool takes them directly to the product page for the holster that fits. This streamlined the shopping experience and reduced friction in the buying process.
The Results
The new Shopify site launched in 2025. Despite launching during the client’s seasonal slow period (their peak sales run through the holiday season), the results have been strong.

Operational Wins
Beyond the revenue numbers, the migration delivered exactly what the client needed—the ability to handle routine updates themselves while freeing up developer resources for custom projects:
- The team can now update content, products, and promotions themselves using Shopify’s drag-and-drop interface
- Routine changes that used to take weeks now happen the same day
- Built the weapons database as a Shopify metaobject, making updates simple and generating 3,000+ model-specific URLs to drive SEO
- Developer time is now reserved for custom features and enhancements—not basic updates
- Faster page load times improve customer experience
- Comprehensive SOP documentation ensures the team can manage day-to-day site tasks independently
Traffic & Device Performance
The new site handles a mobile-heavy audience effectively. In the first 90 days post-launch, 70% of sessions came from mobile devices (roughly 2.5 mobile sessions for every desktop session), with a healthy conversion funnel: 5% add-to-cart rate, 3.4% reached checkout, and 1.83% completed purchase.
Social channels are also contributing, with Facebook leading, followed by Instagram and YouTube, together generating five figures in sales during the same period.
